Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we need this training? Why not just call and wait for 9-1-1?

It is a proven fact that people experiencing injuries such as choking, bleeding, burns, falls, respiratory failures, heart attacks, stroke, etc., become worse as each untreated minute goes by. During the time it takes to call 911 and wait for their response and arrival, a trained co-worker can immediately begin to render assistance and help.

Why do my employees need to know CPR?

CPR effectively keeps blood flowing and provides oxygen to the brain and other vital organs, giving the victim a better chance for full recovery.  If CPR is started within the first two minutes of a cardiac arrest, the chances of survival double.  Lack of treatment during these first critical minutes will almost always lead to a catastrophic outcome.

How can this program help company morale?

Most people enjoy learning new things, especially something that will, not only help their fellow coworkers, but their families and friends as well. This training demonstrates to your workforce that you care about their well-being both on and off the job.  In short, by investing in them, you are investing in your firm and their families.

What are OSHA standards when it comes to employee safety training?

There are several standards that require an employer to provide first aid response.  There are also numerous position letters within OSHA that requires a medical response for what is considered standard and customary care/response.  Recently OSHA has cited numerous organizations for failure to act under the General Duty Clause.   Citations such as these, under the General Duty Clause, are at the discretion of OSHA.  Employers that engage well trained first response teams are significantly less likely to be cited for failure to act, thereby minimizing potential fines and wrongful allegations. OSHA does have industry specific requirements that can be discussed prior to or after training, affording your company clarity in requirements.

How long is the overall training process?

The training process typically lasts for two full days totaling 18 hours of actual training.  This training involves HealthCare Provider CPR (this is the same training Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics receive) and Advanced First Aid with customization to the particular needs of your organization.  A tremendous amount of time is dedicated to hands on practice and followed up with on-site drills and training modules at your location.  In addition, decisions and direction regarding appropriate treatment facilities are a major focus of the program.  All of this leads to the best possible outcomes for the patient. Training can be conducted over weekends, at nights and during the day.  Our goal is to accommodate your schedule without interruption to the workday or your operation.

How many of my employees need to be trained?

Our experience has shown that each organization has different needs.  Whether you have a manufacturing facility, office, warehouse or distribution center we customize the training to meet your particular needs.   Our Training and Safety Specialists will be able to determine the number of employees that should be trained, taking into account, shift size, number of shifts, locations size and traumatic and medical incident potential.

How much experience does your training team have?

Our instructors are Paramedics and EMT’s (Emergency Medical Technicians), who specialize in emergency response and pre-hospital care within New York City.   They have firsthand knowledge of every type of injury and accident coupled with years of experience providing and teaching pre-hospital care.  Many of our team members were responders at the World Trade Center on 9/11 and have years of experience within the 911 system. All of our instructors regularly take continuing education courses keeping them at the forefront of pre-hospital care.

I have more questions about how this program can benefit my employees.

There are tremendous benefits that come with our unique safety training programs. Each facility is different and has varied requirements and access to Advanced Life Support.  No two facilities are the same.  In order to best address specific questions you may have, our Training and Safety Specialists are available to speak with you at your convenience. Do you offer other programs besides first response training?

Yes, we offer Adult CPR/AED and Choking courses. This four hour class allows for hands on experience and training.  Additionally, we can add a Basic First Aid component to the CPR/AED training- exposing your employees to the basics of First Aid.  The First Aid component adds about 2 hours to the CPR/AED/Choking courses.
